Protection from Retaliation

  1. Policy Statement

    The University is committed to protecting University Community Members* from Retaliation, both in the short-term and over the course of their educational and/or professional career at the University. Retaliation against any member of the University of Michigan community who in good faith reports or participates in an inquiry or investigation into Wrongful Conduct is prohibited.

Insider Threat Program

Applies to: All University-affiliated persons with authorized access to Federally-designated Sensitive Information, information systems, and associated research environments hosted, shared, or maintained by the University.
  1. Purpose

    The University of Michigan has legal, contractual, and ethical obligations to protect its sensitive research information, systems, research environments, and individuals with access to sensitive information. This policy implements U.S. Government requirements to protect Federally-designated sensitive research information. It establishes a holistic insider threat mitigation process that combines awareness and training with information security, physical security, and personnel assurance principles.

  1. POLICY

    This policy applies to Intimate Relationships between Supervisors and Supervisees.

    The University of Michigan is a large and complex organization employing tens of thousands of highly valued faculty and staff members. Intimate Relationships may exist between some employees, either prior to the commencement of the employment relationship, or may develop after employment begins. The presence of Intimate Relationships is complicated when those relationships exist or develop between Supervisors and Supervisees.

Applies to: Regular and temporary faculty, staff, student employees, volunteers and visiting scholars with the exception of those covered by a collective bargaining agreement
  1. Policy

    It is important that the University’s academic, research, patient care and service missions are delivered in a safe and secure environment for all University constituents, including students, visitors, patients and employees. Those missions are delivered by a dedicated and committed community of faculty, staff, students and volunteers. In order to better promote safety and security and mitigate potential risk, individuals identified below are required to disclose any felony crime for which they have been charged or convicted.

Paid Maternity (Childbirth) and Parental Leaves

Applies to: All Regular Faculty and Staff, except those represented by a bargaining unit, and Postdoctoral Research Fellows
  1. Policy

    To support the University of Michigan’s commitment to faculty and staff as they balance family, professional and academic responsibilities, the university is committed to providing paid time off for birth mothers and other parents that supports both the physical recovery associated with birth and also provides bonding time with children new to the family. For that purpose, the university provides paid maternity (childbirth) leave and paid parental leave.

Fire/Life Safety Programs

Applies to: All faculty, staff, students and visitors

The Department of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) is the delegated authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for fire safety on University owned properties, and as such is responsible for application and implementation of fire and life safety codes applicable to University facilities and operations. All faculty, staff, students and visitors to the University campus must be aware of their responsibilities regarding fire and life safety, and adhere to them while on university property or when conducting university related business, regardless of geographic location.
